2018

November 26-27: International Traffic Safety Conference 2018 @ Doha, Qatar

Prof. Nakamura attended the International Traffic Safety Conference 2018 held in Doha, Qatar and gave a keynote presentation entitled “The Experience and Challenge in Road Traffic Safety in Japan”.


November 23: Excellent Paper Award, from Committee on Infrastructure Planning and Management Research, JSCE

A Scientific paper summarizing research results from our lab and published in “Doboku Gakkai Ronbunshuu D3”, Vol. 74, No.5 by Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) won the “Excellent Paper Award” of JSCE. Dr. Nobuto Kanbe who is the first author of this paper gave a presentation on this paper at a special session for excellent paper award at the 58th IP Conference held in Oita University on November 24th.

November 23-25: JSCE 58th IP Conference Oita University

The 58th Conference on Infrastructure Planning and Management was held by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) in Oita University. From our laboratory, Asst. Prof. Kakimoto, Ms. Bai (D1), Ms. Fang (M2) and Mr. Pan (M2) made presentations on their research work and had discussions with other participants. November 5-11: International Doctoral Seminar @Darmstadt and Annweiler

The 14th International Doctoral Seminar (IDS) was held with institutes of traffic and transport of four universities: Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany), Nagoya University (Japan), Tongji University (China), and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (India). We discussed the research topics of all participants intensively, had technical visits to sections of the eHighway system and various roundabouts, and enjoyed other activities such as wine tasting, hiking to the Trifels Castle, and visiting the historic cities of Speyer and Heidelberg.


October 31: Doctoral Seminar at Nagoya University

A seminar for doctoral students to present and discuss their research work was held at our Lab. Prof. Keshuang Tang (Tongji University) and Assist. Prof. Wael Alhajyaseen (Qatar University), both doctoral graduates of our lab, attended the seminar and gave valuable feedback to our doctoral students.


October 17: Commemorative photo of the 38th JSTE Research Encouragement Award

Mr. Wanibe, a graduate of our lab visited us today. A commemorative photo was taken to celebrate his and the coauthors' receipt of the 38th Japan Society of Traffic Engineers (JSTE) Research Encouragement Award.

October 13: The 18th Nakamura Cup

The 18th "Nakamura Cup" golf competition was held. Staff, students, and alumni of our lab and their families all got together to enjoy sports, eating, and drinking. Thank you all for attending this event!


September 27: Graduation Ceremony and Party (Fall)

A graduation ceremony was held in Nagoya University. Two M2 students - Ms. Wu and Ms. Toquero got their Master's degrees. In the evening, a farewell party was held by the Civil and Environmental Engineering International Programs Office.

September 26: Farewell and Welcome Party

A farewell party was held for two graduating Master course students. At the same time, we welcomed four new students to our Lab. We wish the graduates all the best in their future work, and the new students a great time in Nakamura Lab.


September 25: Midterm Examinations for M2 Students (Spring)

Midterm examinations for Master Course students were jointly held with other infrastructure planning related laboratories. Mr. Ishiyama, Ms. Fang, and Mr. Pan from our laboratory made presentations and discussed their research progress and future plans.


August 27-29: Summer trip to Yogo

Our lab members travelled to Yogo in Shiga Prefecture. We enjoyed several athletic activities, golf, BBQ and fireworks at Woodypal Yogo. In addition, students had intensive discussions with the professors regarding the direction of their research.

August 8: Award of the 38th Conference of Japan Society of Traffic Engineers (JSTE)

It was our honor that the scientific paper authored by Mr. Wanibe, Asst. Prof. Kakimoto, Prof. Nakamura and Assoc. Prof. Iryo got an award at this conference. The award information is listed here (in Japanese).

August 9: Summer Joint Presentations with Kato Lab and Iryo Lab

Joint mid-term presentations were held with Kato Lab and Iryo Lab. D2, D1, M2 and B4 students presented and discussed their research framework and current progress.


August 7-8: JSTE Conference @Nihon University

The Japan Society of Traffic Engineers (JSTE) 38th Annual meeting was held at Nihon University. From our lab, Prof. Nakamura, Asst. Prof. Kakimoto and Ms. Wu (M2 student) made presentations. The titles of their presentations are listed on this page


August 3-6: ISTS & IWTDCS Conference @Ehime University

The 6th International Symposium of Transport Simulation and the 5th International Workshop on Traffic Data Collection and its Standardization were held at Ehime University. From our lab, Asst. Prof. Kakimoto and Mr. Akandwanaho (D2 student) made presentations. The titles of their presentations are listed on this page.


July 26: Master Thesis Presentations

The final presentations by master course students were held by the Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Environmental Engineering and Architecture, Nagoya University. Ms. Wu and Ms. Toquero from our lab presented their research results. The titles of their theses are listed on this page.



July 18 - 20: Roundabout Manual Seminar @Izumo and Site Visit @Oda

A seminar on the Japan Roundabout Manual was held in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. Prof. Nakamura lectured about some parts of the manual. Participants also visited Japan's first application example of roundabout to expressway interchange in Oda city, Shimane Prefecture.



July 12: Briefing Session on the Two-stage Crossing Field Test @Yaizu

A briefing session about the field test/public acceptance of the two-stage crossing at Yaizu station south exit was held at Yaizu Community Center, Shizuoka Prefecture.


July 5: Lecture by Dr. Nonaka (Highway Planning Inc.)

As part of the course "Project in Civil Engineering A", Prof. Nakamura Invited Dr. Nonaka, the Executive Managing Director of Highway Planning Inc. to give a lecture. His lecture was titled "Thinking about traffic problems on expressways".

June 9~10: JSCE 57th Conference @ Tokyo Institute of Technology

The 57th Conference on Infrastructure Planning was held by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. From our Laboratory, Research Fellow Dr. Zhang, Mr. Akandwanaho (D2), Mr. Zhu (D1), and Mr. Suzuki (M2) made presentations of their research work, and had discussions with other participants. May 31 - June 1: Joint Seminar @ University of Tokyo

The second joint seminar with Oguchi Lab. of the University of Tokyo (TOMEI-STER) was held at the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo. Our laboratory's D2, D1, and M2 students made presentations about their research progress and received valuable comments from other participants.



May 29: Roundabout construction site visit

We visited the construction site of Oichodoichi Roundabout in Aisai City. The construction is expected to be completed towards the end of June, and the roundabout to be opened to traffic by July.

May 24: Final Defence and Public Hearing of Doctoral Dissertation

Mr. Yoshioka presented his doctoral dissertation in a public hearing. Many guests from academia as well as practice in the field of traffic and transportation engineering kindly came and listened to his presentation. The title of his dissertation is listed on this page.


May 24: Two-stage Crossing Workshop

A workshop on two-stage crossing was held at Nagoya Univerisity. Several issues were discussed, including analyses of user behaviour on mid-block crosswalks, results of a questionnaire survey on the two-stage crossing method, and future research plan on the two-stage crossing.


April 7: Cherry Blossom Viewing Party

Our lab held its annual cherry blossom viewing party in Heiwa Park to celebrate the start of the new academic year. We welcomed four new students to our lab, and together with some lab alumni and their families, we had a great time under the fully bloomed cherry blossoms.

March 26: Graduation Ceremony and Farewell Party (Spring)

A graduation ceremony was held in Nagoya University. Four M2 students - Mr. Ueda, Mr. Kato, Mr. Hori, and Mr. Wanibe received their Master's degrees, and Mr. Suzuki (B4) received his Bachelor's degree. A graduation party was later held in their professor's honour.

March 2: Annual JSCE Chubu Branch Conference @Nagoya University

The Annual Conference of Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) Chubu Branch was held in Nagoya University. Mr. Suzuki (B4) presented his results and received valuable comments from the audience. The title of his presentation is listed on this page (in Japanese).

February 19: Two-stage crossing Experiment

From Feburary 19th, an experiment of two-stage crossing as a pedestrian safety measure is being conducted by Yaizu City and our lab.  Click here for more information.
