2019

November 29-December 2: JSCE 60th IP Conference @Toyama University

The 60th Conference on Infrastructure Planning and Management was held by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) in Toyama University. From our laboratory, Prof. Nakamura, Asst. Prof. Kakimoto, Mr. Sekihara (Research fellow), Mr. Akandwanaho (D3), Ms. Bai (D2) and Mr. Hirose (B4) made presentations on their research work and had discussions with other participants. October 19-20: The 19th Nakamura Cup

The 19th "Nakamura Cup" golf competition was held. Staff, students and alumni of our lab and Prof. Boltze from Germany all got together to enjoy sports, eating, and drinking. Thank you all for attending this event!


 

October 14-18: International Doctoral Seminar @Nagoya and Takashima

The 15th International Doctoral Seminar (IDS) was held with institutes of traffic and transport of four universities: Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany), Nagoya University (Japan), Tongji University (China), and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (India). We discussed the research topics of all participants intensively, had technical visits to traffic control center of NEXCO Central, and enjoyed other activities such as hiking, barbecue and playing fireworks.


August 30-31: Summer trip to Kasagi

Our lab members travelled to Kasagi in Kyoto Prefecture. We enjoyed BBQ, played several games, as well as ground golf. In addition, students had intensive discussions with the professors about their research framework and progress.


August 7: 39th Japan Society of Traffic Engineering Excellent Paper Award

The paper authored by Asst. Professor Kakimoto and Professor Nakamura received the 39th Japan Society of Traffic Engineering Excellent Paper Award.


August 6-7: JSTE Annual Conference @Nihon University

The Japan Society of Traffic Engineers (JSTE) 39th Annual Conference was held at Nihon University. From our lab, Prof. Nakamura, Asst. Prof. Kakimoto, Mr. Akandwanaho (D3), Mr. Zhu (D2), Ms. Bai (D2), Mr. Pan (D1), and Mr. Nishigaki (M1) made presentations. The titles of their presentations are listed on this page


August 5: Bachelor Thesis Presentation

The final presentation of undergraduate students was held by the G30 program at Nagoya University. Mr. Herath Mudiyanselage (B4) from our lab made a presentation on his research result. The title of his thesis is listed on this page.


August 2: Summer Joint Presentations with Kato Lab and Iryo Lab

Joint mid-term presentations were held with Kato Lab and Iryo Lab. Doctor course, M2 and B4 students presented and discussed their research framework and current progress.


July 5: Invited Lecture by Dr. Nonaka (Highway Planning Inc.)

As part of the course "Project in Civil Engineering A", Prof. Nakamura Invited Dr. Nonaka, the Executive Managing Director of Highway Planning Inc. to give a lecture titled "Road Traffic Data - Trends and Future Prospects".


June 28~29: Joint Seminar @ Nagoya University

A Joint Seminar (3rd TOMEI-STER) was held at Nagoya University by our Laboratory and the laboratory of Professor Oguchi of the University of Tokyo. This time, Prof. Zong Tian from the University of Nevada, Reno, U.S.A also participated and gave an interesting lecture about traffic signal control. Master's and PhD students from Nagoya University and the University of Tokyo reported on their research progress and actively exchanged opinions about their work.

June 18: 33rd Japan Society of Traffic Engineering Excellent Paper Award

The paper authored by our lab's OB Dr. Yoshioka and Professor Nakamura received the 33rd Japan Society of Traffic Engineering Excellent Paper Award.

May 30: WCTR Topic Area C Best Paper Award

The joint paper by Mr. Zhu (D2) and Professor Nakamura won the WCTR Topic Area C Best Paper Award.

May 25-30: 15th World Conference on Transport Research (WCTR)

The 15th World Conference on Transport Research (WCTR) was held in Mumbai, India. From our Lab, Prof. Nakamura, Assistant Professor Kakimoto, Mr. Edwin (D3), and Mr. Zhu (D2) participated and reported their research results.

May 17: Book Publication

The book Global Practices on Road Traffic Signal Control - 1st Edition: Fixed-Time Control at Isolated Intersections edited by Professor Nakamura et al. was published by Elsevier. It covers the basics of traffic signal control in major countries.


March 31: Cherry Blossom Viewing Party

Our lab held its annual cherry blossom viewing party in Heiwa Park to celebrate the start of the new academic year. We were joined by some alumni and together we had a great time under the fully bloomed cherry blossoms.

March 25: Graduation Ceremony and Farewell Party (Spring)

A graduation ceremony was held in Nagoya University. Three M2 students - Mr. Ishiyama, Mr. Pan and Ms. Fang received their Master's degrees, and two B4 students - Mr. Nishigaki and Ms. Kako received their Bachelor's degrees. A graduation party was later held in their professor's honour.

March 1: Annual JSCE Chubu Branch Conference @Aichi Institute of Technology

The Annual Conference of Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) Chubu Branch was held at Aichi Institute of Technology. B4 students Mr. Nishigaki and Ms. Kako presented their research results and received valuable comments from the audience. The titles of their presentations are listed on this page (in Japanese).


Feb 7-8: Master Thesis Presentations

The final presentations of master course students were held by the Department of Civil Engineering, Nagoya University. From our lab, M2 students Mr. Ishiyama, Mr. Pan, and Ms. Fang made presentations on their research results. The titles of their theses are listed on this page.
