2016

December 27: Joint Presentations with Kato-Lab

As a semiannual event, joint mid-term presentations were held with Kato-lab. Eleven M2 and B4 students presented and discussed about their research objectives, frameworks, current progress and future plan. In the night, we held a year-end party together and deepened our friendship.

November 8: Mini-symposium "Towards a realizatoin of Hieararchical Road Network" by JSTE in Takamatsu

A Mini-sympojium titled "Towards a realization of Hierarchical of Hierarchical Road Network ~for Making Lands, Regions and Communities More Fexible and Sustainable~" was held by Japan Society of Traffic Engineers (JSTE) in Takamatsu-city, Kagawa-prefecture. The purpose of this symposium was to announce the achievement of three-year research activities done by a community for "Highway Capacity and Quality of Service" in JSTE, which was chaired by Prof. Nakamura. In the symposium, we could successfully exchange our ideas on how to improve road planning, design and operation with the participants working in local practice.


November 04~06: JSCE 54th Conference @ Nagasaki University

The 54th Conference on Infrastructure Planning and Management was held by Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) in Nagasaki University. From our laboratory, Mr. Akandwanaho (M2) and Assist. Prof. Goto made presentations on their research progress and discussed with other participants. The tiles of their presentations are listed in this page. Prof. Nakamura also took the chair of the session on "Traffic Operation and Management".

October 29: The 16th Nakamura Cup

On the next day of the 20th anniversary party, the golf tournament "Nakamura Cup" was held. Twenty-three players, which is the maximum number in the history of this annual tournament, competed for the trophy under the sunny sky in autumn.

October 28: The 20th Anniversary of the Lab

We celebrated the 20th anniversary of the lab which was established in 1996. A lot of alumni not only from all over Japan but also from overseas got together and had a precious time by recalling the 20-year memories. Thank you so much for those who joined the party, as well as those who gave a celebration message for our party!!

October 16~21: International Doctoral Seminar @Darmstadt

The 11th International Doctoral Seminar (IDS) was held with four institutes on traffic and transport of five universities: Technische Universitaet Darmstadt (Germany), Nagoya University (Japan), Tongji University (China), Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (India), and Vietnamese-German University (Vietnam). We discussed the research topics from every participant intensively, and made technical visits in traffic control center in Frankfurt.

September 6: Joint Mid-term Presentation with Kato-lab.

As a semiannual event, joint mid-term presentations were held with Kato-lab. Our members, Mr. Akandwanaho (M2) and Mr. Ishiyama (B4), presented and discussed about their research objectives, frameworks, current progress and future plan.


September 1~3: Summer Trip to Mt. Fuji area

We, all the lab member, went travelling around Mt. Fuji such as Yamanakako-lake, Kawaguchiko-lake, etc. We could enjoy a beautiful nature around the area and deepen our friendship in a 3-day trip. At the entrance of Shiraito-waterfall, we observed the ongoing field operational test where a signalized intersection were converted into roundabout.

August 8~9: The 36th Conference of Japan Society of Traffic Engineers (JSTE)

The 36th Conference of Japan Society of Traffic Engineers was held at Surugadai-Campus, Nihon University in Tokyo. Mr. Kato (M1) and Mr. Wanibe (M1) made presentations on their researches. Titles of their presentations are listed in this page (in Japanese). Since this year is the 50th anniversary of JSTE, we could attend memorical events such as special lectures and party, and meet and discuss with a lot of participants.


July 10~14: 14th WCTR @Shanghai, China

14th World Conference on Transport Research was held in Tongji University, Shanghai, China. The conference takes place every three years and this time it attracted 1170 papers written by various participants from 65 countries. From our lab, Prof. Nakamura served as a manager of Topic Area C "Traffic Management, Operation and Control" and Dr. Goto and Ms. Zhang made a poster and oral presentations respectively. June 23: Lecture by Dr. Nonaka (Highway Panning Inc.)

As a part of the course of “Project in Civil Engineering A”, Prof. Nakamura invited Dr. Nonaka, the Exective Managing Director in Highway Planning Inc. to give a lecture.
His lecture was titled “Present and Future of Step-by-step Construction of Motorway in Japan”, which introduced how the motorway network in Japan had been extended with a limited budget and gave a lot of insights for us to think about the future development of motorway in Japan.

Jun 14~16: ISEHP 2016 @Berlin, Germany

Prof. Nakamura and Dr. Goto attended ISEHP2016 -International Symposium on Enhancing Highway Performance-. The symposium was a joint symposium which combines "the 7th International Symposium on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service" and "the 3rd symposium on Freeway and Tollway Operations" by TRB committees AHB50/AHB20. Prof. Nakamura gave a country report titled "Updates on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service Studies in Japan", and Dr. Goto made a poster presentation on functionally hierarchical road network planning method. Title of her presentation is listed on this page

May 28~29: JSCE 53rd Conference @ Hokkaido University

The Conference on Infrastructure Planning and Management by Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) was held in Hokkaido University, Sapporo.
Prof. Nakamura, Assist. Prof. Goto and Ms. Zhang made presentations and had fruitful discussions. Title of their presentations are listed here (in Japanese).


May 7: Memorial Lecture and Party for Prof. Yoshitsugu HAYASHI's Retirement

Memorial Lecture and Party for Prof. Yoshitsugu HAYASHI, who had held semi-annual joint meetings with our lab and retired from Nagoya University last March, were held on 7th May in Nagoya.Conglaturation and thank you so much to Prof. Hayashi!


April 2: Cherry-Brossom Viewing Party

Our lab held the annual Cerry-Brossom Viewing Party, under fully bloomed cherry-brossom trees. We, not only current members including two new students from this April but also some alumni and their families, had a plecious time together.

March 25: Graduation Ceremony and Party

Graduation ceremoniy was held in Nagoya University. Mr. Mashima got a master's degree and Mr. Kato and Mr. Wanibe got bachelor's degrees. Furthermore, Ms. Goto (Assist. Prof.) and Mr. Watanabe (Research Fellow) got doctorates. In the night, we had the big graduation party with all faculty members of Civil Engineering and celebrated their graduations.

March 4: Annual JSCE Chubu-branch Conference @National Institute of Technology, Toyota College

Annual Conference of Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) Chubu-branch was held in National Institute of Technology, Toyota College. Mr. Mashima (M2), Mr. Kato (B4) and Mr. Wanibe (B4) presented their research results and discussed with the audience. The titles of their presentations are listed in this page (in Japanese).

February 16: Final Defence and Public Hearing of Doctoral Dissertations

Assist. Prof. Goto and Mr. Watanabe (research fellow) presented their doctoral dissertations in public hearing. Many guests from the academic as well as practice in the field of road traffic and transportation and others kindly came and listen their presentations. February 9, 10 & 12: Thesis Presentations

The final presentations of undergraduate and master course students were held by the Department of Civil Engineering, Nagoya University. Mr. Mashima (M2), Mr. Kato and Mr. Wanibe (B4) from our lab made presentations on their research results. The titles of their theses are listed in this page.
